Thomas Wolsey is situated on the north-western outskirts of Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk. The school is well located, close to the A14, which provides good connections to the north, east, and west of Suffolk as well as linking with the A12 into Essex. Thomas Wolsey can also be reached by public transport. Ipswich is well served by local buses and train services.
